A 10 x 12 ft cedar pergola built around one idea: you should be able to change the weather under your own roof. Two grey aluminium louvered panels turn on a hand crank, moving from wide open sky to a closed, rain-shedding roof in seconds, with every angle in between available for the hours when you want filtered light and moving air.
The frame is 100% premium exterior-grade cedar, chosen because it is naturally resistant to rot and insect attack without chemical treatment and because it holds a stain beautifully. It arrives finished in warm Natural Cedar, so there is no waiting and no first-season maintenance before you can use it.
Around the perimeter, an integrated gutter collects runoff and directs it down through two posts, keeping the covered area dry underfoot. Four 5.5 x 5.5 in posts on classic plinths anchor the structure while leaving the view out of it completely open.
Every component is pre-cut, pre-drilled and pre-stained, and all the hardware and illustrated instructions are in the box. It is a substantial build, but it is a sequence to follow rather than a carpentry project to work out.
